Online Comics and Comic Book Links (and plain old books too!)
Here you will find links to some online comics or sites to check out some not-so-mainstream comic
books. For those of you who haven't picked up a comic book in a while, it is not all Superman
and Archie! (thank goodness) Comic books have a dimension to them that traditional books cannot
offer; even movies can't quite offer the blend of a printed story with the visual interpretation of
drawings like a good comic book or graphic novel.... If you like to read books, then there is probably
a comic book to suit your taste somewhere. This will be updated regularly, so do check back!
Note: Some contain some violence, and I've tried to mark it.
Biblio.Com - A site that promotes reading, and sells used, rare and out-of-print books, at what seems to be
good prices. It also has an extensive list of bookstores in many countries that sell used books.
Oddly Normal - Fignation Times by Otis Frampton and Jessica Hickman - "This critically acclaimed book and
recommended for youth by The American Library Association is back with another adventure." This is a
fabulous book to read!
Star Wars Clone Wars (online comic) by Grant Gould - It's Star Wars and it's good!
Fringe by Wildstorm Publishing- A series of 6 books (I read them all). Gives great background to the
whole story....
SoulDriver by Jim Giar - ''Sometimes....to get to the bottom of something ...you have to kill your way
to the top'' Not for the faint of heart, gritty and ''noir'', a fabulous read. Contains some violence.
Supernatural written by Peter Johnson; Art by Matthew Dow Smith; Cover by Tim Sale - I have not yet
read this, but if you wish, here is the description: This new collection — featuring the six issues of
WildStorm's SUPERNATURAL: ORIGINS comic — acts as a prequel to the hit CW television show.
Written by series Executive Producer Peter Johnson, it gives readers an incredible never-before-seen
look into the mythos of the series...
Air by G. Willow Wilson; Art and Cover by M.K. Perker - Ladies and gentlemen, there's been a change in
our flight plan. You may have heard of a group called the Etesian Front — vigilantes dedicated to taking the
skies back from terrorism. Sounds like a noble cause, right? But there's more to them than meets the eye.
They're after someone I know. Someone who is either an average frequent flier — or a terrorist. And he's
got a secret. Something that will change the way we fly — and the way we see technology — forever.
Mature Readers.
Fables written by Bill Willingham - not your run-of-the-mill fairy tale, definitely worth a look...download
issue one here and give it a try.
Sandman by Neil Gaiman - download issue 1 here and give it a try. Contains some violence.
Strangehaven Vol 1 - Arcadia by Gary Spencer Millidge - A subtly supernatural tale of intrigue, romance
and mystery with a twist of dark humour.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Vol 3: Century by Alan Moore - (this is not like the movie, believe me.)
The third volume detailing the exploits of Miss Wilhelmina Murray and her extraordinary colleagues,
Century, is a 216-page epic spanning almost a hundred years. Tthis monumental tale takes place in three
distinct eras, building to an apocalyptic conclusion occurring in our own current twenty-first century.
(For 2009) Volume 1 can be seen here and Volume 2 here.
